Still no change on the frozen screens but once I have passed the frozen stage I can do what I want. So guys guess what I went into device manager and found if I right clicked on the the graphics I could update - so I did. The Stellarium display now has several colour bands across the wide view night sky but I can live with that as I am looking at narrow FOV which has a plain black sky. Re the graphics I have Intel HD grapics 5500 and I rely on Microsoft to perform the necessary updates.

Sometimes it unfreezes and everything works as I had before. When this happens I get a narrow short horizontal band in which I can move the sky but 99% of the screen is frozen.
